Page 3 of 5 In some situations two separate cleaning fluids may be required to switch inks. The required cycle depends on the type of inks you are switching from and the type of inks you are switching to. - Use the original Flush Solutions if you can to clean the system, dampers, tubes etc. as a first step. If you do not have or do not know what fluid you need use distilled water instead as a good alternative for a first cleaning cycle.
Waste Ink Tank If your printer allows you an automatically changing to other inks and you prefer this option above the manual flush and primimg methods please be aware that this consumes a lot of ink, distilled water or flush solutions. For certain printers (if not already in place) we urge you to install an external waste-ink tank. For some printers we have a How-To-Do instructions here on this web site. Your printer will thank you for your efforts and last longer.
- The third cycle is to use the Cleaning Solutions coming from the manufacturer of the inks you want to switch to. This cycle is to prepare the printer's ink system and print heads to accept the new chemical formulation. Here again, if you are not going for the manual flush and prime methods make sure you have enough of the required flush solutions on hand.
- The last cycle is to empty ink circuits from your printer and to install the inks. If you prime the inks manually you should prime the tubes and dampers (if available) but not the print heads. The volume contained in the print head is about 1/5 of a ml, it will take only one automatic cleaning cycle from the printer to get that fluid replaced with new fresh ink. This can avoid accidentally damaging the head if you are doing this not gently enough!
If you are switching to FabricFast Ultra Inks on a new printer or a printer where you have currently the genuine Epson Inks, Reactive or Acid based inks installed you are save to use the Flush Solution coming with the water based pigments as the only Flush solution to clean and prepare your system. If you are currently using Solvent based inks we strongly recommend to use our CleanJet 101. CleanJet 101 is specially designed for solvent based inks, use it in the first clean cycle. Use Trident's Flush solution, coming with the FabricFast Ultra, in the second and final cleaning cycle to prepare the system for the pigment inks.
